Good afternoon All,
I am a new member and I am looking forward to learning more about flies. My main interest lies in Hoverflies and Soldierflies and allies but I am getting more interested in other groups of flies.
Is this Hylemya vagans please? Beds. 13 May 2020.
I have seen this fly before but cannot locate my identification, can someone remind me please.
It was at Holtspur Bottom Nature Reserve today, i recall the larvae is on Ragwort. But incase i am wrong the general habitat is chalk grassland.
thanks
Sue
I hope this is the correct place to post to request an ID - I am very new to Dipterists' Forum. Can anyone help with this Hybomitra from Rye Harbour NR, East Sussex on 13th July? It appears to run through to muhlfeldi but I am not familiar with this species so any pointers would be appreciated
Hi, Philophylla caesio seems like best match based on colour and wing markings. Have I missed a look-alike which is the real ID?
Location has plenty of nettles.
Many thanks!
I found this at Dancers End near Tring, I am not sure at all which group this belongs to but suspect the eyes are distinctive enough to point to an ID.
The fly was small max 8mm, habitat tall grassland including hogweed and marjorum, on chalk.
Would be grateful for any pointers.
Second poor photo only to show general body shape.
