Can anyone help with this Simulium ID
This blackfly was caught in a moth trap 17/18th March in East Lothian. I have been trying to identify it. I think it is a Simulium species but cannot get further than that. Is anyone able to help from these photos ? Thankyou, Shelagh McDowall.
Photo uploads
Apologies that in recent months the photo upload process was not working as it should have done. The process has now been updated, and there is some revised guidance on the Forums help page.
Hopefully that will enable you to add photos more easily but let me know if there are any problems.
ID check... Ceratitis capitata..?
Hi, Found this beautiful little fly on the kitchen window this morning.
Looking at the dipterist gallery it looks like a female Ceratitis capitata, but just wanted to confirm the ID before recording.
Mycetophilidae ? Leia species
Hi,
I have been using RES Vol 9 part 3 to try and identify this Mycetophilidae caught in a light trap 5/6th Oct in East Lothian on a grassy strip next to mixed woodland. The key has taken me to genus Leia but I can't get any of the species to match. Can any one help ?

?Sarcophaga sp.
Although I've been a member of Dipterists Forum for a number of years I've never had much time to look at flies. Now I've semi-retired I'm starting to take a serious interest, but I'm an absolute beginner in the subject.
So, first of all, I am right in thinking this is a Sarcophaga species? And secondly, are the creatures in the second picture the larvae? I gather the young leave the body of the dead mother?
Possible Xylota sylvarum and Conops flavipes for id?
Hi I wonder if anyone could confirm these ids? Both seen at in gardens /woodland edge at Upton Country Park, Poole, Dorset on 10th July 2023. Many thanks - Nick Woods
Bycatch
Hello all,
I'm a new member to the group. I work with Culicoides, so I'm reasonably confident with ID in this particular group. However, I get a lot of other small insects in our trap catches that I'd be interested to identify. Can someone recommend a decent Diptera ID guide, or failing that, would anyone here be able to help if I post a series of images of the main individuals I'm seeing? Here's one from a farm in Devon for starters...
Thanks in advance!
Keroplatus testaceus?
I'd be grateful for confirmation that I'm on the right lines with the ID for what appears to be Keroplatus testaceus. It keys out well but I'm pretty new to most diptera families so wary of bear traps. Photos uploaded which should show the important features for family/species
