Hi,
The link to the latest version of the checklist hasn't worked for me for a couple of weeks. Is the link down for others too?
Thanks,
Sam
These photos by Dan Houghton show Dorycera graminum ovipositing in a dead teasel stem. Apparently there references on the web to ovipositing in umbellifer stems and cracks in a fence-post.
Photos taken at Abshot in South Hampshire, SU523056, on 31st May 2021.
I've been perusing older publications for fly records for Leicestershire & Rutland. One of these has been the British Flies series by Verrall at the start of the 20th century. I noticed that he refers to records from a number of recorders from across the country as well as his own.
Have all Verrall's records used in the book series been catalogued and if so are they available?
Good morning all!
Has anyone stumble across or know of a site where they have consistently the shore fly Ochthera mantis.
I would like to obtain some live specimens to look at.
Best,
Darren.
Hi, I am trying to identify a female of Sargus 'irridatus/cuprarius', so, using 'Soldierflies and their Allies', I need to locate the furca. Where is this located? I have more or less cleared the tip of the abdomen without the structure being obviously evident, assuming that is where it should be found, but perhaps that is wrong? Also, what is its function?

I added image files then clicked 'save' but no images appear on my post (sorry - I made two posts by mistake in an attempt to get the images to show). One on occasion I could see the image files embedded in the Body text, but images still don't appear.
I've had problems before when trying to upload images, even though they are only 0.5 MB.
Can anyone assist please?
Found on a thistle in Leicestershire - early August 2020. It seems right for Xyphosia miliaria male, having checked (as far as possible) the various features against the descriptions in the I.M. White key.

I ran a pitfall trap in a Breconshire woodland in 2018 and have been gradually looking through the contents. Between 2018-07-11 and 2018-08-08 it caught, among the usual ground dwelling arthropods, two female Neuroctena anilis.
