The female of Pegomya rufina has boomerang-shaped structures on each side of the ultimate tarsomere of all legs. The function of these are unknown.

I am testing the adding of a photo of Pegomya rufina (Fall.) (Anthomyiidae). It is a caudal view of the hypopygium.

Roger Morris passed me a box full of Lonchaeidae at last weekend's Empid & Hybotid workshop. In the box was a male Earomyia viridana. A species and in fact genus I have not encountered in about a decade of collecting, so thanks Roger!

If you look under the "Local groups" heading in the main menu you'll see some county and regional DIptera groups, and we've now added a section for general local groups that include flies within a general coverage of invertebrates. If your insect or invertebrate group is missing from this list please let us know!

Ian Andrews recently Tweeted that he had recently recorded Norellia spinipes at three locations in East Yorks. I also recorded one, a female, at Fineshade Wood, Northants on 3/11/2018. It was in an area of carr on the edge of the wood and, like Ian's records, some distance from known daffodil sites.
