Might this hoverfly be a Chequered Hoverfly - Melanostoma scalare?

Might this hoverfly (same in both photographs) be Eristalis horticola?

Can any one identify this? Seen on an ornamental pond, motionless too far away and then it vanished. I thought it was a dolichopod but can't find a match. I have this down as the second most mindless killer.

Is this Tephritis ruralis please? Beds. 28 March 2022. Looks right, especially wing, but only T3 has basal hairs black.
