I have three of these newly emerged small 3mm-ish length flies from a vane trap ( sample 15 April - 5 May). The vane trap was on a rotten beech and caught a lot of detritus from an overhead jackdaw nest. Unfortunately the wings have not expanded and the ptilinal pouch has not withdrawn back into the head, making it diificult to figure out what this fly is. But it does have:
a retreating profile to the head,
quite large yellow palps,
the front tarsi have a black basitarsus and four white tarsal segments,
a pair of orbitals appear to be crossed, but this may because the frons is somewhat collapsed.
