In spite of the dark stigma I thought the inverted 'U' on the pleurae meant this must be Nephrotoma appendiculata. However it was at Hexton Chalk Pit (VC 20) on 25 June 2014, which is rather late according to Stubbs (2021) (April to early June). Posted pics on Facebook Cranefly Group page and am advised that blunt cerci rule out appendiculata, suggest analis? Keys to that species in Stubbs but dorsal stripe on abdomen is wide (should be narrow) and location doesn't seem right. Overnight quadrifaria has become the Facebook favourite.

Thanks John. I thought Nephrotoma was easier than it seems to be.
Yes, 10 points !!! N. quadrifaria it is. It is the only Nephrotoma with the dark seam right across the wing.
